The best Ukrainian apples are on their way to Southeast Asia!

Ukrainian apples have been shipped to Hong Kong on August 21, 2018! These apples will be presented by members of Ukrainian Horticultural Association (UHA) and the largest Asian fresh produce trade show Asia Fruit Logistica 2018. UHA is organizing a national stand for the best Ukrainian fresh produce growers and special Asiafruit Business Forum within the framework of the exhibition.

From Ukraine the following companies are taking part in the exhibition: Sady Dnipra with UApple brand from Dnipropetrovsk region, Fedorivske Farm from Vinnitsa region, Volodymyrski Sady Farm from Volyn region with Fruit Boutique Exclusive and Premier brands and the Bukovinsky Sad company of the Svarog West Group from Chernivtsi region. These companies have carefully selected varieties of apples to bring to Asia Fruit Logistica, which would match the most demanding tastes of Asian consumers and made a lot of effort to design the most suitable packaging.

“Ukrainian apples, berries and other fruits and vegetables can be sold all over the world in the premium price segment thanks to the unique climatic conditions of our country and modern growing technologies. Two successful trade missions organized to South East Asia this year helped as fully confirm this as we have got a very positive feedback from Asian consumers. Therefore, our goal is to sell our apples at a fair but very competitive price in the premium price segment to demanding consumers from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and other countries in the region,” says Andriy Yarmak, economist at the FAO Investment Centre and Head of FAO/EBRD/ EU4Business Project promoting Ukrainian food exports.

This project provided technical support for these trade missions and partly reimbursed the expenses of Ukrainian farmers to prepare for it. The project analysts have also provided in-depth studies of these target markets to determine products, which could successfully be sold and markets, which would be interested in high quality Ukrainian produce.

Since the apple harvesting is only starting in Ukraine, farmers will present at the exhibition mainly different clones of the Gala variety. Apple of Gala Schniga variety, which is juicy, beautifully coloured and very tasty has maturedfully and is ready to impress consumers in Asia. Premium quality Granny Smith apples will also be presented at the expo.

“I’m going to Hong Kong to introduce Ukrainian apples to consumers in Asia, discover new markets for Ukrainian products and to meet potential clients. UHA has already helped us organize a lot of meetings with companies interested in Ukrainian apples as well as other fruits and vegetables. It I our experience that the only way to develop Ukrainian fruit and vegetable industry further is to increase exports, and the Asian region offers the best import prospective. That’s why we are going to Asia,” says Olexandr Pakhno, the head of Sady Dnipra. The company operates one of the most modern apple orchards in Ukraine as well as high-tech storage and sorting facility for premium quality apples.

“The Asian region should become a priority for export not only for fruit growers, but also for representatives of other sectors of food and agriculture of Ukraine because, according to all demographic and economic forecasts, this is where the highest growth of food consumption will occur in the next 20 years. Therefore, UHA’s strategic focus is to expand exports to this region specifically”, – said Fedir Rybalko, head of UHA.

UHA, in cooperation with FAO and the EBRD, will hold a special business forum within the framework of the exhibition, which will discuss the prospects of exporting fruits and vegetables from Ukraine, Moldova, Uzbekistan and Serbia to Asia.
