Apple stocks in EU are at record levels
Apple stocks in the EU remain enormous, this spring. At the beginning of March, record volumes were in the storage rooms of European companies: The highest number of the last 12 years. This is reported by analysts of the Ukrainian Horticultural Association (UHA) with reference to the reports of the World Pear and Apple Producers Association (WAPA).
According to WAPA calculations, as of March 1, the total reserves of apples in the EU reached 3.099 million tons, which is 1.7 times more than on the same date in 2018. For comparison, in the early spring of last year, 1.781 million tons of apples remained in storage in European farmers.
The largest reserves were in storage in Poland. At the beginning of March they amounted to 940,000 tons and were twice as high as last year. The second place behind Italy is 913,000 tons, that is, 1.8 times more than on March 1, 2018. Closes TOP-3 France. According to WAPA estimates, as of March 1 of this year, apple reserves in this country amounted to 406,000 tons, which is just 15% more than a year ago.
As for the varieties, the lion’s share of the reserves in the EU at the beginning of spring were Golden Delicious apples, which accounted for 27% of the available volumes. This means, the stocks of apples of this variety amounted to 829,000 tons, exceeding the figures for March 1 by 42%.
