The Sale Season for Ukrainian Sweet Cherries Ends - Fruit Ukraine

The Sale Season for Ukrainian Sweet Cherries Ends

The price of cherries often exceeded the price level of the last year.

Analysts at EastFruit project report that last week most gardeners in Ukraine announced the end of the cherries season. This information is also confirmed by wholesale companies, which reported a lack of supply of this berry in local farms. Last week wholesale companies could not obtain the necessary wholesale volume of cherries even by increasing the purchase prices for these stone fruits.

The last batch of cherries gardeners offered for sale at a price of 40-80 UAH/kg ($ 1.48-2.97/kg), depending on quality and variety. At the same time, this week, producers increased the prices for residual batches of cherries by an average of 28%.

The price of cherries was often higher than the price level of the previous year because of a decrease in the production of cherries in the country due to adverse weather conditions in the spring. High cost often became the reason for reducing demand for this berry. Market participants attributed this to the fact that end consumers were not ready to buy local berries at such a high price.

It is worth noting that last year, the sweet cherries season in Ukraine ended about 2 weeks earlier, but manufacturers shipped the last batches of these products on average 24% cheaper than in the current season.
